The British cotton industry experienced its most prosperous period between 1945 and 1951.

In 1948 Mr Parkash arrived in Britain from his home country of India with the objective of sourcing fabric from Lancashire, the epicentre of the country’s cotton industry, to export to the Indian subcontinent. However, during the 1950’s cheap imports of textiles from Commonwealth countries became more competitive & readily available.

The company I J Parkash Ltd which was later incorporated in 1955 and had to diversify from primarily exporting fabrics to importing fabrics into the UK. In the initial stage the fabric was in loom state or finished form & sold to manufactures or converters.
